DERMAPLANING FAQS
Dermaplaning is a wonderful way to resurface the skin and eliminate unwanted hair at the same time. We use a medical-grade, 10-R Butter Blade to physically remove dead skin cells and vellus hair (light and dark peach fuzz). For best results, we recommend treatments every 4 weeks.
What is it?
Performed by a licensed esthetican, Dermaplaning uses a medical grade scalpel to gently remove dead skin cells along with vellus hair (light and dark peach fuzz). It was originally invented for exfoliation, but the added benefit of hair removal made it that much more desirable.
WhAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Skin appears brighter and smoother. Texture feels softer. Pores look smaller. Products penetrate deeper. Makeup goes on smoother. We recommend coming every 4 weeks for best results.
How IS IT DIFFERENT FROM SHAVING?
Shaving uses a straight blade to cut the hair off bluntly at the surface. With Dermaplaning, we use a 10-R Surgical Butter Blade held at a very specific angle to physically exfoliate the skin and remove the fine hairs. Anything you buy for home use is just not the same.
What is the prep/post care?
You will need to refrain from sun exposure and using retinols, glycolics, or other anti-aging/acne treatments 1 week before and after treatment. For best results, we recommend multiple treatments every 4 weeks.
DOES IT HURT?
Not at all. In fact. all of our clients have said, “that is the most relaxing service I’ve ever had.” Since we are using a blade, tiny knicks can occur, but they are very rare and heal within a day.
HOW WILL MY SKIN LOOK AFTERWARDS?
Glowing! Sensitive skin may be a little pink, but that goes away very quickly. You might experience a little dryness for a few days following, but nothing that a little extra moisturizer can’t fix. Skin will also feel immediately smoother.
DOES THE HAIR GROW BACK MORE?
Not at all. In fact, many of our waxing clients who have switched to Dermaplaning end up coming less often because the hair seems to return more slowly.
IS THERE ANYONE WHO CANNOT DO DERMAPLANING?
Dermaplaning will not remove coarse, terminal hair. So you would want to get waxed first, and then wait a few days to come in for Dermaplaning. Dermaplaning is also not ideal for clients suffering from severe rosacea or acne.
